Cam Wong
Cam Wong is many things. She is an avid tea drinker, a lover of the outdoors, an accomplished figure skater, and a craft beer enthusiast.
As a colleague, Cam is one of the hardest workers I know. She is often the first one in the office and the last to leave. Her work calendar is often filled late into the evening with tasks and items to complete for the next day. She refuses to produce work that does not showcase the best of her abilities.
As the USC’s 2020-2021 VPCPA, Cam has revolutionized the USC’s online branding. Faced with the COVID-19 pandemic and a lack of in-person ways to promote the USC, Cam and her all-female team of graphic designers, associates, and coordinators have been working all year to produce fantastic content for the USC. Have you seen USC’s social media page recently? I can no longer count the number of times other student unions have complimented the USC on their social media presence – all because of Cam and her team’s work. Cam is the reason the rest of the executive looks good. No one would know about what we did without her.
Cam Wong is also a fierce advocate, though she would not call herself one. She lives and works with her values front and centre, bringing a lens of inclusivity, equity and environmentalism to everything she does. She is the person in a meeting to remind us that we are all working for Western students.
What is most impressive about Cam is the way she communicates with those directly around her. She truly listens to you when you speak. She makes everyone on her team feel valued and like they have a voice. She remembers your coffee order and checks in on you when you’ve had a bad week.
Cam is the kind of person who leaves big shoes to fill on both the teams she works on and with the people she interacts with.
I am lucky to call her both a trusted colleague and a close friend.
